Old students of the Federal Government Girls College Owerri have on Thursday evening protested against Marriott Hotels giving out their rooms booked many months ago for their reunion programme.
Members of the old student’s association had arrived at the hotel as scheduled on Thursday and made to claim their rooms only to be told that their rooms had been let out to politicians.
It was gathered that the hotel was one of those whose rooms were taken over and paid for wholly by the Imo State Government.
The government, it was learnt booked all available hotel accommodation in the state capital and some neighboring towns to accommodate chieftains of the All Progressive Congress who are expected to come into town for the November 11 governorship election.
A voice belonging to one of the old students who was narrating the incident at the reception of the hotel, was categorical about the association having taken precautions to book ahead for its members.
The voice of the narrator revealed, “What we have learned is that, despite reservations made several months prior to this date, at the last moment, the hotel management gave the reserved rooms to politicians who arrived, leaving many former students of the Federal Government Girls College, Owerri, stranded in the lobby with no place to rest and no accommodation to stay.”
