The Oyo State Police Command has engaged in mass deployment of personnel and intensified surveillance across the state ahead of the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Ob Abdulrasheed Ladoja.
As disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the massive deployment is part of the command’s strategies and measures, in collaboration with sister security agencies, to guarantee a safe and peaceful ceremony.
Other deployed measures, according to Osifeso, include confidence-building patrols and intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations across the state.
The Police spokesperson added that special attention will be given to entry and exit routes leading to the coronation venue.
“This includes public parks, train stations, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan,” Osifeso noted.
He further disclosed that the state government’s organising committee has announced the closure of certain routes around the historic Mapo Hall—venue of the coronation—from 7 a.m. on Friday.
“In light of these alterations, the Oyo State Police Command advises the public to adjust their movement plans accordingly and to consider alternative routes to mitigate potential disruptions,” the statement added.
The Oyo Police warned against any acts of public disorder, including unauthorised processions and movements within the metropolis before, during, and after the event.
Osifeso urged residents to support the security arrangements, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with law enforcement officers to ensure the success of the historic ceremony.
