Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been accused of deploying political thugs to attack the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Chairman of the state’s chapter, Ade Adetimehin, and other officials of the party.
The thugs had reportedly stormed the Ondo APC secretariat during a stakeholder meeting on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers armed with sticks, machetes and other dangerous objects, stormed the premises and incited chaos as they shouted threats, forcing party members to flee.
Adetimehin was caught in the fracas and physically assaulted with a now viral picture showing him lying on the ground while holding his face.
Addressing newsmen after the incident, the APC chairman alleged that the attackers acted on the directive of the state governor.
He specifically accused members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), led by their state chairman, Ademilua Odudu, of invading the secretariat and violently disrupting the gathering.
“They came in force this morning and ordered everybody to leave. They claimed the governor owns the party. We told them we were not challenging anybody’s authority, but they attacked us,” Adetimehin said.
