Ahead of the Ondo gubernatorial election, a group of youths have stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Maitama office, Abuja, demanding the removal of the state’s Residential Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola.
The group, under the aegis of Ondo Youth League, marched to INEC’s office on Tuesday demanding for the redeployment of Babalola.
As seen in a video shared on X by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the protesters held several placards calling for the REC’s removal.
“Mahmood; Redeploy Babalola now.”
“INEC, Let Ondo be the example of transparency needed to rebuild public trust across Nigeria.” some of the placards read.
Recall the NPO reported PDP’s demand for the REC removal ahead of the gubernatorial election during the flag off campaign for the party’s candidate, Agboola Ajayi.
Speaking at the campaign, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, had alleged that Babalola is from Ondo state which contradicted the INEC’s rule of engagement.
However, the electoral body would later debunk Makinde’s allegation as they claimed Babalola is not from Ondo state.
