One dead, 14 victims rescued as Police foiled kidnap attempt by bandits in Katsina State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the state’s Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq.
According to Sadiq, armed bandits had, on Sunday, attacked two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia area of the state.
However, swift response by a team of operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia foiled the kidnap attempt as they opened fire against the bandits.
Unfortunately, two of the rescued victims were caught in the fire exchange with one passing away from the sustained gun shot injury.
However, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Aliyu Musa, according to Sadiq, commended the gallantry display of the operatives.
The CP urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to promptly report to the nearest police station.
“On November 24th, 2024, at about 1955 hrs, suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, attacked two (2) commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, and rescued fourteen (14) victims.
“Two rescued victims suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
“The CP, while commending the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry and dedication to duty, charged officers to sustain the tempo. He further urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to report to the nearest police station promptly” Sadiq said.
