- Agency Report
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the death of one person in a road traffic accident at Ilasa bus stop.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the casualty in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency received a distress call about the accident at 3:18 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of its Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa.
He said the team arrived at the scene about 15 minutes later and discovered that a tipper truck loaded with sand had collided with a motorcycle.
According to him, preliminary investigation indicated that the tipper driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the motorcycle from behind.
“Tragically, an adult male passenger on the motorcycle lost his life as a result of the collision,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA responders, in collaboration with LASEMA Response Unit paramedics, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, managed the incident.
He said the remains of the deceased were recovered and handed over to family members present at the scene.
He added that the affected tipper truck, with registration number 19F 992FG, and the motorcycle were moved off the carriageway to prevent further gridlock.
“The vehicles were subsequently taken to Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the operation had been concluded, with normal traffic flow restored in the area.
He commiserated with the family of the deceased and appealed to motorists, particularly articulated vehicle drivers, to exercise caution and observe traffic regulations.
He urged motorists to avoid reckless driving to prevent avoidable loss of lives on the roads.
The permanent secretary reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to the safety of lives and property and sustained rapid emergency response across the state. NAN
