Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has ordered the arrest of the perpetrators responsible for the Tuesday’s killing of a woman at the Onitsha Main Market.
NPO Reported that operatives of an Anambra State Environmental Law Enforcement outfit, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, had yesterday opened fire in the market following altercation with some traders.
The incident as confirmed by the police had led to the killing of a lady identified as Chinwe Igwe while six others were injured during the attack.
Reacting in a statement issued on Wednesday by Anambra’s Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, the state governor ordered the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
Soludo also pledging to meet the medical needs of those injured.
The state government, according to the statement, said investigation into the incident had commenced, while promising that it would ensure that all necessary measures were taken to prevent reoccurrence.
It expressed regrets that over the demise of Chinwe who was confirmed dead on arrival at an undisclosed hospital.
The state government however disclosed that the other victims were currently receiving treatment while normalcy had been restored in the area by the police.
“We appreciate the swift intervention of the police who worked hard to restore calm and order to the area same day.
“The police patrols and law enforcement monitoring team are still on ground in the area to ensure sustained peace,” the statement added.
