Slams Caller Ruling Out his Chances of Winning

Popular Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has declared interest to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State as he slammed a caller ruling out his chances of winning.
Hamzat made this known during a live radio program following a call from a listener abroad.
As captured in a post shared on X on Sunday, the caller advised him against running for political office, warning that popularity is not enough to earn him support.
“Don’t listen to those who are saying Oyo is calling Oriyomi Hamzat. They are only lying,
“Even around your radio station, if politicians bring money, you’ll lose that polling unit. People might like you, but don’t count on their votes.” The caller had advised him.
Responding, Hamzat talked down the pessimistic remark.
He maintained that he was not seeking validation and would not be discouraged by naysayers.
“Don’t say they won’t vote for me. You might even be the one to push me into the race. I have my own brain and I can make decisions,
“If I decide to contest, I will contest, and I will win. Don’t come here telling me I can’t. Do you know the hearts of the people? You’re judging tomorrow by yesterday.” he said.
While he has not officially declared his candidacy, Hamzat’s comments appear to be the clearest indication yet of political ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The broadcaster is renown for his advocacy on social justice issues and grassroots engagement which has earned him popularity and admiration among ordinary citizens.
He further gained widespread popularity following the tragic stampede incident at a funfair event he co-hosted with former wife of Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, in December.
The incident, which claimed over 30 lives with several others injured, led to his arrest and arraignment.
He was granted bail on the 14th of January 2025.
