The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is set to flag off the remodelling of Osogbo Township Stadium alongside his Deputy and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for the 11th of February 2025, at the stadium complex.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Osun State Sports Council’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Moradeyo.
According to the statement, the event will mark the commencement of a transformational project that will reposition Osogbo as a major sporting hub in Nigeria.

The Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Special Needs- Mr Layi Adesiyan and the General manager of the Osun State Sports Council, Mr Rotimi Dunmoye had reportedly briefed the media on the plan to remodel the stadium, adding that the event will also feature a special cash award presentation to athletes who have made the state proud in competitions.
The initiative, according to Moradeyo, aligned with Governor Adeleke’s vision for sports development in Osun State.
She recalled that in late 2024, the governor approved the remodeling of the multi-purpose stadium, which is already undergoing major renovations and is expected to be fully completed by mid-2026.
Upon completion, the Osogbo Township Stadium will feature ywo artificial turf fields, one grass pitch, an artificial hockey pitch, a multipurpose indoor sports hall, two tartan tracks, a squash court, and a swimming pool
Also contained in the remodelling plan are hostels and a hotel for athletes and visitors, covered seating for the main bowl pitch, and a shopping complex to boost local economic no activities
The upgrade, according to the statement will not only provide world-class sports facilities but will also contribute significantly to the economic and social growth of Osun State, attracting athletes, sports enthusiasts, and businesses from across the country.
The flag-off event is also set to have in attendance, Cabinet Members, Members of the Osun State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker-Rt.Hon. Adewale Egbedun alongside with Chairman House Committee on Sports- Hon. Abiola Jeremiah Awoyeye as well as other key stakeholders in the sports industry.
The Osun State Sports Council, however, urged all sports lovers, athletes, and well-meaning citizens to join in celebrating this historic development, which marks a new era for sports in Osun State.
