The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of orchestrating the attack against two of its members in the ongoing Continuous Voter’s Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
As contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the two members were attacked by suspected hoodlums alleged to be PDP political thugs at the INEC office at Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Council Area of the state.
The thugs led by one Hassan Oyewo Abdullahi alleged to be the notorious leader of a dreaded ‘One Million Gang’, reportedly attacked the victims identified as the APC Ward 1 councillor, Taiwo Kazeem and another member, Oladimeji Olamilekan, with a short axe.
Intervention of the registrants at the INEC office was said to have prevented the victims from being killed by the hoodlums.
However, Abdullahi was alleged to have succeeded in attacking the victims on the heads with his hidden short gun during the fiasco.
The APC further claimed that a former chairman of the council, Sarafadeen Awotunde, popularly known as ‘Spain’, would storm the INEC office with thugs to whiskey the attackers away in an attempt to avert their possible arrest by the police.
While condemning the attack on the APC members, Olabisi called for the arrest of the suspected attackers as well as Awotunde, the former Ifelodun LG Chairman.
Olabisi alleged that Awotunde has past criminal records which he had overtime confessed to.
“We are condemning the needless attacks of our members at the INEC office by the PDP thugs who were suspiciously acting on the order of Awotunde, who is a self-acclaimed violent PDP thug in Ikirun and its environs.
“We are appealing to the state commissioner of Police to, without further delay, arrest, investigate and arraign the suspects if only to serve as a deterrent to the other notorious political thugs across the state.
“This shameful criminal conduct of Spain and his gang is inimical to public peace which is the potent reason they are not supposed to cohabit with the peace-loving people in the society.
“It is necessary to effect the urgent arrest and arraignment of Awotunde based on his past records of self-confession that himself and his gang are always responsible for the disturbance of peace and harmony in the Ikirun axis of the state.
“Awotunde should be made to tell the police to justify the escape of the suspects who assaulted the members of our party while carrying out their constitutional right of participating in the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration exercise.” The statement partly read.
