Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has appointed Nigerian afrobeat singer, David Adeleke (popularly known as Davido as the state’s chairman of Sports Fund.
Davido’s appointment was disclosed in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
Also confirming the governor’s appointment of his nephew was the state’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi.
According to Adewusi, the singer’s appointment by the governor would help attract funding and positively impact sports development in the state.
He explained that the Sports Trust Fund which was recently introduced is aimed at attracting support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state.
“The introduction of a Sports Trust Fund will attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development,” he said.
Meanwhile the Deputy Governor also noted that the Adeleke-led administration is determined to turn the Osogbo Township stadium which under renovation into a world-class arena capable of hosting both national and international competitions.
“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards is a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi said.
