The governor of Osun, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, has said that the helicopter which was used for security surveillance in the state has broken down and needs huge funds for repairs.
The governor disclosed this during a debate organized by the BBC as part of preparations towards the July 16, governorship election in the state.
Those who took part in the debate include governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke; that of the Labour Party, Lasun Yussuf, Accord Party, Akin Ogunbiyi and Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party.
The question on the helicopter had been posed by Adeleke who demanded to know what has happened to it.
The state government under former Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, acquired the helicopter in 2013.
The helicopter, a French Five-Plus-One passenger Eurocopter AS-355N, is a 2006 Model with twin engines.
Apart from security surveillance, the government had stated then that the helicopter was acquired on a lease agreement with the OAS Helicopters, for medical emergencies.
“The helicopter owned by Osun State for security surveillance is undergoing repair but the challenge we have is that the amount we will use to repair it can buy new one, so we are in the dilemma to take a decision on this,” he said.
