MTN Nigeria has, on Tuesday, sparked public outrage over 400 percent hike in cost of 15 Gigabyte data plan.
The telecommunication company had, on its online app, increased the data plan cost from N2000 to N6000.
This is coming under the heels of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) controversial approval of 50% hike in telecommunications tariff- a development which is still under heavy debate.
While the agitation for the reduction of the tariff hike remains ongoing, MTN would give its Nigerian customers a doze of reality with the sharp increase which has ever enraged netizens as they expressed their displeasure over the hike.

“The MTN (15gb weekly plan) digital bundle that was 2k just few hours ago is now 6k 🤦♀️ like wtf. As usual we will all move on and never question this government for high increase in tariff. Make everybody sha dey behave as if e no concern us😏” @Olabisi

“How will remote workers survive now? How will Nigerian creators who pay for X sub and still subscribe MTN and later get peanut survive” @Dansuki wrote
Meanwhile, some X users shifted the blame on President Bola Tinubu-led administration, citing the economic hardship as reason behind the hike.
“They tried their best for us all. They had to wait this long before they even raised the price. Government taxes are the reason for the skyrocketing of consumer’s prices. Don’t blame MTN, blame APC & Tinubu.”@Ultra
“I won’t even blame MTN. In a country where the president said he does not believe in price control, what do you expect will happen?? The government is out there to watch people plunge further into poverty. They want to reduce the public’s purchasing power so you will not have the means to fight back against a government that puts people in sufferness. We just dey start.”@Nawti Boy
