The Nigerian Police Force has commenced search for a woman captured in a viral video giving her baby alcoholic drink.
As seen in the video shared across social media platforms on Sunday, the yet-to-be identified woman recorded herself feeding the baby with a brand of Action Bitters sachet alcoholic drink.
In a caption attached to the disturbing video, the mother disclosed giving the child the drink every night for her to sleep.
“Every night just for her to sleep” She wrote.
This had sparked outrage amongst netizens who called for the government and police intervention.
Reacting to the post, the Nigerian Police Force maintained that exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and dangerous.
It urged any member of the public and X user, who posted the video yesterday, with valuable information about the woman to contact the Force for her arrest.
“We are aware of this distressing video and are investigating urgently. Exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and dangerous.
“We urge @ChuksEricE and any member of the public with valuable information that could lead to the swift apprehension of this “mother” to not hesitate to provide same.
“They can reach out to us on 09169967000. The child’s safety is our priority.” the Police posted.
Also requesting for the woman’s information was social media influencer and activist, Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as Just Adetoun.
Sharing the video on her Instagram handle on Monday, Adetoun promised a sum of N200,000 to anyone who can give information about the mother or the child.
She disclosed the readiness of a child community initiative, feedachildci, to take over the baby from the mother.
“One person births a child the whole society owes them a responsibility to protect them. if u can’t protect a child @feedachildci is fully legalised and backed up by its constitution to do so
