The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man caught with suspected human flesh along the Toll Gate, Ibadan expressway.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on the command’s official X handle on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the suspect, simply identified as Alfa Basiru, was apprehended during a stop and search operation by the team of the Federal Highway Patrol Officers.
The officers had at approximately 11:30am yesterday stopped a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG, for the search operation.
The operation led to the discovery of the suspected human flesh from Basiru, who was a passenger in the vehicle.
Basiru claimed to have purchased the item in Lagos.
While he had since been transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku for further inquiry, the suspected human flesh recovered from the suspect is currently undergoing forensic evaluation to ascertain its nature and origin.
In a separate incident, a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX was stopped for a routine search.
The driver, whose identity is currently unknown, reportedly fled the scene upon being approached.
The Command urged anyone with claims to the vehicle, which has been held in custody for safe keeping, to contact the Oyo State Police Command on +234 808 176 8614 with relevant documents and proof of claim.
In light of the events, the Oyo Police Command reiterated the significance of the Stop and Search operations conducted on major highways, intersections, and adjoining roads.
It held that the proactive measures are not only vital for enhancing public safety but also for preventing criminal activities.
The Command further maintained that the operations are essential in its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents and travelers within Oyo State.
It however clarified that the actions are not scenes from a hypothetical horror narrative, but rather necessary measures to maintain order and protect innocent lives.
