The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspected armed robbers over alleged theft of N7.5 million worth of jewelry from a married couple in Ibadan, the state’s capital.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on the Command’s official X handle on Friday.
According to the statement, the arrested suspects had alongside other members of their gang who are currently at large, attacked the couple at their residence around Bashorun area of Ibadan on the 15th of June.
They allegedly forced the couple into their apartment where they carted away the 52 grams of gold jewelry worth N7.5 million as well as their iPhones and other valuables.
“These criminals forced the couple into their apartment at gunpoint, stealing a total of 52 grams of gold jewelry worth about 7.5 million Naira, along with an iPhone 13, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other valuable items.
“Additionally, they illegally transferred 4.5 million Naira from the couple’s Monie-point bank account into an account belonging to a female accomplice in the robbery. The thieves then fled the scene on a motorbike they used during the attack.
“The incident was promptly reported to the Ikolaba Police Division and later forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku, Ibadan. The CID began a thorough investigation into the matter.” the statement partly read.
The investigation would on Wednesday lead to the eventual arrest of the gang leader, identified as Omole Ridwan, and Adegbile Adewumi, the female member whose account was exploited for the money transfer.
During the arrest, law enforcement recovered several dangerous items, including an AK-47 rifle (with an empty magazine), a double-barrel pistol, a homemade gun-like object, an axe, and two cutlasses used in the robbery.
Both suspects have, according to the statement, provided voluntary confessions to the police regarding their involvement and have shared essential details that may help in catching the remaining gang members.
The Police maintained that investigation is still ongoing with assurances of further details.
