The Oyo State Police Command has commenced investigation over a confession video of a suspected thug who admitted having committed multiple killings in Ibadan, the state’s capital.
This was made know in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to Olayinka, the command had obtained the video where the suspected thug who identified himself as Shawama, in the company of others, claimed to have killed 32 people.
While admitting that Shawama have never been arrested by the command, Ayanlade said the thorough investigation has commenced in securing the arrest of the suspect.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that there is no record of such an individual having been arrested by our operatives at any point.
“However, as a responsible and responsive agency, the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video.
“The investigation is being conducted leveraging advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a robust and credible outcome.” The Police spokesperson wrote.
The Oyo Police urged members of the public with information that can lead to the arrest of the thug to come forward and present them.
“The Command further appeals to members of the public with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of Shawama or his accomplices to come forward and assist law enforcement in bringing them to justice.
“The Command assures the public that updates on the progress and outcome of the investigation will be shared in due course.” Ayanlade added.
Meanwhile, the disturbing video shared on X on Tuesday showed the suspected thug boasting in Yoruba about killing 32 people during a clash while claiming being hailed by soldiers and police over his feat.
“When they wanted to kill us in Ibadan, we changed it for them. I killed 32.
“Police and soldier saw me and said I should be going home that I’ve tried.” He said.
While being hailed for his feat, the thug and his colleagues declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
