The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of a vehicle stolen from an Uber driver with the suspected thief arrested.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso.
According to the statement, the vehicle identified as a silver Toyota Corolla Sport, registered as LSR 893CX in Lagos was recovered during the anti-robbery operation.
Osifeso explained that the operation is part of the Command’s ongoing initiative to address armed robbery incidents specifically targeting Uber drivers in the state.
He disclosed how the alarming rise in reports of armed robbers attacking Uber drivers at gunpoint, resulting in the theft of their vehicles and cash had led to the Command’s engagement of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough inquiry and prompt intervention.
Following intelligence gathering, extensive surveillance and tracking efforts, the command’s Anti-Robbery Squad successfully located and recovered the stolen Toyota Corolla.
This prompt recovery, according to Osifeso, underscored the unwavering commitment of the Oyo State Police to safeguard the well-being of all residents and visitors.
The state Police Commissioner, Femi Haruna, as quoted in the state further described the recovery as the command’s determination to confront crime and protect citizens.
“The recovery of the stolen vehicle reflects our determination to confront crime proactively,
“We are dedicated to protecting our citizens and ensuring that those responsible for these criminal acts are brought to justice.” Haruna said.
The command urged anyone with information related to further robbery incidents or suspicious behavior to report it immediately, as it reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of the community.
