- Safiu Kehinde
The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) factional National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, has called on the United States President, Donald Trump, to save Nigeria’s democracy.
Turaki made the call at the PDP’s national headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday following clash with the party’s expelled members led by its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
NPO Reported that the Anyanwu-led faction who were backed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, had clashed with the newly elected leaders of the party spearheaded by Turaki.
While the Anyanwu faction had earlier arrived at the Wadata Plaza, the Turaki-led faction backed by Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde, forced their way through the secretariat.
Addressing newsmen after the fiasco, Turaki called on Trump and other developed nations to save Nigeria’s democracy which he claimed to be under threat.
“I want to call on President Trump. What is at take is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians. He should come and save democracy in Nigeria.
“Democracy is under threat. I’m calling on all other developed nations, all advanced democracy to come and save Nigeria.” Turaki said.
The PDP factional chairman accused Wike of leading armed thugs to the party’s headquarters as he reiterated his call for intervention of the international community.
“Because I cannot understand how a serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be leading armed thugs with the active connivance of the police to come and create problem here.
“I have said it we are willing to lay down our lives to protect our country, democracy, and mandate.
“Nigerians you are watching what is happening. International community, you are seeing the disgrace that Nigerian democracy is. Come and save us.” Turaki added.
