The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) new National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, has postponed the inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting following clash with the expelled faction of the party led by its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
Supporters and members of both factions had on Tuesdays engaged in fierce clash as they stormed the party’s National Headquarters for separate meetings announced by the factions and scheduled to hold at the same venue.
While the Anyanwu-led faction had arrived earlier at the Wadata Plaza, Turaki and other invited leaders and members of the party forced their way through to the complex which was heavily guarded by the police.
Videos shared on X showed moment members of the party led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Oyo counterpart, Seyi Makinde, were dragging the plaza gate with security operatives.
The group overpowered the security operatives and advanced to the complex.
Addressing newsmen after gaining access into the complex, Turaki announced the postponement of the meeting.
While lauding the conduct of the police personnel, Turaki accused the Anyanwu-led faction of disrupting the meeting scheduled to hold today.
“The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, I told him that we are coming today to have our inaugural NWC meeting and I told him that our leaders will be here to witness this historic moment.
“And I also told him that we’ve seen in the social media, some fliers purporting to give notice of NEC and BoT by people who are no longer members of this party.
“He assured us that he is going to protect us. He assured us that he is going to provide security for us to conduct our meeting.
“I’m happy that the Commissioner of Police of the FCT has fulfilled his promises. They have made sure that we gain entry into our secretariat, and we are here addressing the gentlemen of the Press.
“However, due to some incidents caused by those people who are the enemies of progress, enemies of democracy, we have decided that this meeting will be postponed till tomorrow.” He said.
