The Nigerian Police Force has denied the involvement of its officers in the assault of an Edo State activist.
As captured in a viral video shared on X on Saturday, the activist simply identified as Comrade Okhani, was physical assaulted by security personnel who accused him of recording them.
The personnel were seen kicking the activist’s head with their boot before dragging him from the floor with his shirt.
Reacting to the video in a post shared on his X handle , the Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the personnel were not officers of the Force.
Adejobi however confirmed that the case has been referred to the Edo State Police Command with the victim set to be invited for questioning.
He vowed that perpetrators of the assault will be brought to justice.
“This matter has been referred to the CP Edo State for investigation. However, i have been reliable informed that they are not policemen.
“The victim will be invited to give more info about the violators. They will surely be fished out. Thanks.” Adejobi wrote.
