Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the disputed Saturday February 25 elections Peter Obi, has visited the home of Mrs Jenifer Efidi, who was stabbed in the eyes during the last election.
Mrs. Efidi, a supporter of Obi’s Labour Party, had stood up against those seeking to suppress voters in the Surulere area of Lagos.
She was stabbed in the process.
Unmoved by the attacks on her, she insisted she must vote. Her photos with her eyes bandaged, had gone viral with many using her case as a major illustration of the intimidation that attended the polls.
Labour Party won the presidential election in Lagos but lost in the overall results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Visiting Mrs. Efidi on Monday, Obi said she remains a heroic woman in the disputed election.
“Today, I visited Mrs Jennifer Efidi. She was attacked on 25th February in an attempt to stop her from voting, but she stood her ground. Jennifer is one of the great icons of Nigeria’s democracy,” he stated
Obi said She is his point of contact with “every Nigerian who suffered a similar fate in their bid to exercise their voting rights,
and contribute to a new Nigeria. Like many Nigerians, I acknowledge her bravery and resoluteness. Jennifer is a true manifestation of Profiles in Courage for a new Nigeria.”
