An aide to the son-in-law to the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, Uche Nwosu, has said that the manner in which policemen broke into the church to arrest his boss was as if he is the leader of Boko Haram.
In a statement by Nwadike Chikezie, he said that the law has been turned into an instrument of intimidation.
Chikezie said the event at the church was the outing service of the family of Nwosu after the burial of his mother, the late Ezinne Jemaimah Adaeze Nwosu.
“Giving the personality involved, we deem it fit to issue this release to officially inform Ndi Imo and society at large on what happened today which has attracted public out cry,” he said in the statement
Describing the invasion of the church as a desecration, he said the security “barged into the church, disrupted the service and violently whisked Ugwumba Uche Nwosu away with sporadic shooting inside the Church which scared the worshippers away.”
Admitting that the Police are free to carry out their legitimate business, he said going about it in the manner Nwosu was arrested should raise concerns.
“The issue of disrupting a church service just to make an arrest is something of worrisome especially when there is no need for such.
“It is on note that Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, a known gentleman to the core has great respect for constituted authorities and can never ignore or snub any police invitation. We also know that Ugwumba Uche Nwosu is never a violent person and cannot resist submission to authorities for investigation. All these point to the fact that based on what happened today, it might be more than what it turned out to be if not because of media coverage that took place.
“The viral video is a water tight proof of the commando manner they carried out the purported arrest as if they came to pickup the leader of Boko Haram …but this is just Uche Nwosu in this case.”
