The Ekiti State Police Command has on Monday arraigned a man, his wife and daughter before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged assault on neighbour and some officers of the command.
The defendants who were identified as Babatunde Awolusi, 45; Mary Awolusi, 42, and Oluwaseun Awolusi, and reside at Gloryland Avenue, Covenant Extension, Ado-Ekiti, are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on assault and obstruction of duty.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, the defendants committed the offence on February 11, at about 10:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendants assaulted one Precious Agunbiade and Kehinde Agunbiade, following a misunderstanding over land demarcation.
According to the prosecutor, in the process, the third defendant cut Kehinde with a razor blade on her back.
He alleged that the defendants also assaulted some police officers, ASP Taiwo Ogunleye, Insp. Adejoh Esther, and Insp. Omozuafo Juliet, and obstructed them from performing their lawful duties.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene the provisions of section 184, 186, 187 and 187 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
In his verdict, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, refused the bail of the first and third defendants, and consequently, ordered their remand at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti.
The court, however, granted the second defendant bail on health grounds, in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Feb.20, for mention.
