Oyo state Police Command has, on Thursday, arraigned a 22-year-old mechanic, Waris Tijani, over alleged N1.5 million car fraud.
Tijani, who had no fixed address, was presented before Magistrate Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, at the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan.
He was charged with obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing.
However, Tijani pleaded not guilty of the alleged offense.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor, Insp. Oladejo Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on the 15th of August at about 4.00p.m, at Moniya area of Ibadan.
Balogun said the defendant collected the sum of N1, 514, 000 from the complainant, Mr Jamiu Lawal, on the pretense of buying and fixing a new gear for his Toyota Corolla car.
He alleged that the defendant who failed to buy the new gear, converted the money to his personal use.
Balogun said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She, however, adjourned the case until Nov. 18, for hearing.
