The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Maureen Okirie, and two minors over alleged murder of a family member in Akute area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the statement, Maureen was apprehended alongside 15-year-old Salia Karikari and 12-year-old Jubril Karikari over the murder of one Stanley Okirie, a 38-year-old man related to the prime suspect, Maureen.
They were arrested yesterday by the detectives of the Ajuwon Police Divison while attempting to bury the deceased in a shallow grave.
“The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, 9th April 2026, at about 1115hrs, following an anonymous tip-off regarding suspicious activities in the area.
“Acting promptly on the information, detectives arrived at the scene and caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-drenched corpse in a shallow grave, in what is suspected to be an effort to conceal the crime.” Babaseyi wrote.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary examination of the body revealed a severe injury to the victim’s head.

Further investigation indicated that the victim was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while the other suspects, who are relatives of the deceased, conspired in the commission of the crime and the attempted cover-up.
The police confirmed the recovery of the suspected murder weapon with the body of the deceased deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe, for autopsy.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act, describing it as a cruel, inhumane and deeply disturbing incident, particularly as it involved close family members.
He emphasized that such acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
The CP further assured the public that the Command is fully committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, and that all those found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
He also called on residents to remain security conscious, promptly report suspicious activities, and continue to cooperate with the Police in the collective effort to rid society of criminal elements.
