No fewer than 38 Suspects have been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command in intensified manhunt for the killers of Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya.
NPO Reported that Eya was ambushed and shot dead by unknown gunmen last week Friday along the Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area.
The state government had in reaction placed a N10 million bounty in killers of the clergyman.
Also reacting in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu Police’ Commissioner, Mamman Giwa, ordered that the killers of the priest must be traced and brought to book.
Ndukwe said that the CP ordered the Area Commander, Udenu Area Command and heads of Tactical and Operational Units in the command to fish out the killers.
In swift response, the police operatives under the Udenu Area Command’s coverage arrested and detained 38 suspects, following bush combing and raids of different black spots in the area.
“Incriminating exhibits were recovered, while the suspects are currently undergoing screening.
“The commissioner has commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased and the Catholic Church.
“He reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to leave no stone unturned in apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bringing them to justice,” The police spokesperson said.
