The Police on Sunday said it has arrested Prince Eniola Oyesosin over Saturday’s murder of a United States based lecturer Dr. Richard Idowu.
The police said Oyesosin, who is the son of the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin was arrested because he was the one who gave instructions to his civilian guard to fire the shot that killed the Chieftain of the People Democratic Party in Osun.
NPO Reported earlier that Idowu was killed on Saturday shortly after attending a ceremony marking yhe 50th anniversary of the coronation of the monarch of his town.
He had returned from the US where is based a university don.
The deceased, the arrested prince and a member of the All Progressive Congress in Ejigbo town, Asalu had reportedly left the venue of the party to attend a short meeting at the private residence of Oyesosin.
After the meeting which NPO Reports gathered did not last up to an hour, they were on their way out when the prince, the host of the meeting reportedly asked one of the private guards in his house to shoot.
Yemisi Opalola, Osun Command spokeswoman said in her statement on Sunday, “The Osun Police Command is using this medium to inform the general public that the Command is aware of the the incident of shooting that occurred at Ejigbo which led to the death of one Dr. Richard Adeori Okin.
“The incident occurred on 27/1/2024 at about 9:48 pm after the 50th Coronation Anniversary of the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Oyeyode Oyesosin where one Prince Eniola Oyeyode ‘m’ of Ejigbo Instructed one of his civilian guards named Hammed Abdul Jelili ‘m’ of Ejigbo to fire his double barrel gun into the air to confirm if the gun is in good condition or not, but instead shot directly at the victim and he was rushed to a hospital but confirmed dead by the Doctor.
“Meanwhile, the prince Eniola Oyeyode who gave the order to his civilian guard to fire gun have been arrested and detained.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Bzigu Dali Kwazhi, mni, therefore appeals to member of the public especially the residents of Ejigbo to remain calm as discreet investigation has commenced immediately.”
