Operatives of the Badagry Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 2 persons for illegal possession of firearms in Lagos State.
The suspects who were identified to be Sodiq Muftau (male) aka Mainama aged 30 and Surakat Toheeb (male) aka Elewedu aged 29 were arrested in Badagry area of Lagos state on September 23, 2022.
The spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the duo were arrested on initial suspicion by patrol officers within Ajara Community.
Although, Muftau and Toheeb were arrested, it was reported that other members of the gang fled on sight of the police.
It was made known in a statement by Hundeyin, that locally made double-barelled pistols, nine live catridges, charms and weed were found in the possession of the suspects.
“The suspects were arrested when policemen on routine patrol noticed their suspicious movement within Ajara Community. Other members of the gang took to their heels upon sighting with the police.
“After a through search of the suspects, a locally made double-barrelled pistol, nine live cartridges, charms and weed suspected to be indian hemp were found in their possession.”
The statement further revealed that the suspects are members of Eiye Confraternity in Badagry and efforts are being put in place to unravel more details about their activities and source of firearms.
The suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation.
