The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has cleared air surrounding the alleged arrest and unlawful detention of minor.
Reacting to the claim in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the Police said the arrest was made in compliance with court order.
According to Adeh, the minor, identified as Deborah Fornchor, was arrested based on warrant from a Senior Magistrate Court over alleged assault of Court official.
Adeh narrated that the court had issued an order for delivery by undisclosed court official to the residence of Ann Fornchor.
On arrival at the resident, the court official was allegedly challenged and assaulted by Deborah Fornchor, leading to the issuance of her arrest warrant by the court.
The statement read in part; “The FCT Police Command has become aware of misleading rumors circulating on social media about the alleged arrest and unlawful detention of a minor by officers from the Kubwa Police Division.
“We would like to clarify that on 16th October 2024, the Senior Magistrate Court in Dutse Alhaji issued a court order for delivery to the residence of Ann Fornchor, located on Henry Nweke Street, Gberango Layout in Kubwa.
“During this process, court staff were confronted and assaulted by Deborah Fornchor.
“As a result of this incident, the Court authorized a warrant for the arrest of Deborah Fornchor for assaulting court personnel.
“The FCT Police acted in accordance with this court order, apprehending her and subsequently handing her over to the court authorities.”
Meanwhile, the Command confirmed that Deborah is in their custody as they await further proceeding from the court.
“She is currently in custody at the court’s directive, pending further proceedings.
“The FCT Police Command emphasizes that all actions taken were in strict compliance with legal procedures and court directives” the statement continued.
