The Oyo State police command on Tuesday confirmed that its men have foiled attempts by some members of the disbanded Parks Management Committee in the state to cause mayhem.
NPO Reported earlier that the police raided the residence of a former ally of the Governor Seyi Makinde and recovered guns and charms and other ammunitions.
The governor had announced the dissolution of the committee shortly after being sworn in at the state capital on Monday.
The former ally of the governor, Mukaila Lamidi, popularly called Auxiliary, reportedly escaped arrest as men of the police stormed his residence.
The government was said to be in possession of vital intelligence which showed that Auxiliary had perfected plans to cause mayhem to retaliate the dissolution of his committee.
The Parks Management oversaw the affairs of all motor parks in the state before its dissolution.
The police, while confirming the raid on Tuesday said “The Police command foiled an attempt at fuelling civil disturbance in the state through wide scale civil disturbance by members of the disbanded park mgt systems,”
IT said 78 persons whom it called hoodlums were arrested while a caché of firearms assorted charms and huge cash sum were recovered.
