The Imo State Police Command has debunked a viral video purporting an alleged attack and abduction of motorists by gunmen along the Owerri-Aba Road.
The gunmen were alleged to have attacked a 14-passenger bus along the road, abducting all the occupants of the vehicles.
Video of the aftermath of the alleged attack showed residents and other onlookers standing along the road.
NPO Reports however reached out to the Imo Police Command for confirmation of the incident.
As against the circulated claim, the police spokesperson, DSP Okoye Henry, dismissed the claims as he held that no attack or abduction was reported along the said road.
Okoye disclosed that the video in circulation is an old video recorded earlier this year.
He accused Linda Ikeji Blog of posting what he labelled misinformation and attempt to cause unnecessary fear among the public.
“That incident is not true. Nothing like that happened in Owerri. That video is an old video. I don’t why they are recirculating it.
“It was Linda Ikeji that posted it on her blog, and many people are now getting the misinformation from her.
“Up till now, nobody has reported such incident to the police. That particular video is an old video recorded earlier this year
“The only rumour that we are getting now is that these hoodlums came out yesterday and abducted some passengers along that road.
“But I am telling authoritatively that the matter has not been reported. That video that is circulating online is an old video.
“I don’t know the reason why that video was circulated.
“But obviously, it could be by a mischief maker to cause unnecessary fear and apprehension among the public.” Okoye said.
