The Nigerian Police Force have invited Human Rights activist and Sahara Reporter’s publisher, Omoyele Sowore, for probing over alleged intimidation of officers.
Sowore disclosed this in a post on his official X handle on Friday with an attached copy of the invitation letter.
Recall that the 2023 Presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), had on the 9th of January shared a video where he challenged some Police Officers at a checkpoint along Ikeja airport.
Sowore, as seen in the video, restricted the officers order to pull over.
As contained in the invitation letter issued and signed by the CP Ibitoye Rufus for the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), Sowore was accused of intimidating Police Officers.
He was directed to report to the office of the FID Complex in Abuja on Monday.
The letter; “This office is investigating case of Resisting and Obstructing Public Officers, Disobedience to Lawful Order, Acts Intended to Cause Grievous
Harm or Prevent Arrest, Compelling Action by Intimidation, Reckless & Negligent Acts, Refusal to Assist Public Servant and Cyberstatking in which your name featured, prominently.
“You are requested to report for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) thrOugh the undersigned, at SPO’s Room 212, 2nd Floor, Force Intelligence Department (FID) Complex, Shehu Shagari way, opposite Force Headquarters Area 11, Ggrki, Abuja on Monday, 27th January, 2025 at 10am.
“This request is made- pursuant to the investigative powers conferred on the
Police by the combined effects of Sections 214 and the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) and Section 4 of the Police Act and Regulations, 2020.”
