The Lagos State Police Command has nabbed a security guard, Amos Kini, over alleged abduction of his employer’s two-year-old child in Elemoro area of the state.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
According to statement, the mother of the child had last week reported the abduction case at the Elemoro Police Division.
She disclosed that Amos had absconded with her son and mobile phone to an unknown location without her consent.
The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the father of the child, demanding a ransom of N5 million for his release.
In reaction to the report by the disturbed mother, operatives from Elemoro Division were immediately deployed to the scene.
The operatives, according to Abimbola, took in one Aruna Dauda, who stood as guarantor for the suspect before his employment, for questioning.
The suspect was eventually forced to release the child following the sustained operational pressure, intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance by the police.
However, the operatives of the Tactical Squad dubbed Hyena continued their manhunt for the security guard.
The team eventually tracked and arrested Amos at his hideout within the Elemoro area on the 23rd of September.
Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and had since remained in police custody.
The Lagos Command assured that he will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, strongly condemned the abduction of the innocent child.
The Commissioner, according to statement, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating all forms of violent and capital crimes in the state.
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, and advised members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the Police any of our emergency numbers 08063299264, 09053872208, 08087332678.
