Operatives of Lagos State Police Command have rescued four suspected Shoplifters from being lynched by angry people in the area of Surulere, Lagos State.
The suspects, Babatunde Ogunsemi, 48, Olatunde Ayinde, 50, Oludare Olusegun 49 and Sunday Ebifega, 41 were
rescued by the men of police attached to Surulere Division upon receiving a distress call from members of the community.
Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement on Tuesday noted that the suspects were caught while trying to steal from the supermarket.
The statement further revealed that the suspects were once captured on CCTV last month shoplifting six bottles of Martell Blue swift cognac from the same supermarket adding that one of them, Sunday, had in 2021 been charged to court for committing same crime.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were once captured on CCTV on 01/09/2022 shoplifting six bottles of Martell Blue swift cognac from the same supermarket.
“One of the suspects, Sunday, had been previously charged to court in 2021 for shoplifting.
“Suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation,” Hundeyin said
While commending the residents of Lagos State for their supports, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi charged the public to promptly report any suspicious person or happenings around them.
He warned the member of the public to desist from the bad habit of taking law into their own hands.
