In what has since been considered a pure act of integrity, a serving police officer attached to the Borno State Command, Mohammad Muhammad, returned N2.6 million mistakenly transferred into his bank account.
This was disclosed in a post shared on X on Monday by Nigerian security expert, Deji Adesogan.
According to Adesogan, the money was mistakenly transferred into the policeman’s bank account by a customer of a fintech company, Moniepoint.
Upon discovering the unexpected credit, Muhammad took deliberate efforts to trace the source of the funds, contacted the appropriate channels, and ensured that the entire amount was safely returned to the rightful owner.
Adesogan hailed the policeman over his display of integrity and honesty.
“His action stands as a powerful reminder that integrity remains a core value within the Nigeria Police Force.
“At a time when public trust in institutions is critical, Mr Mohammad’s conduct reflects the ideals of service, discipline, and moral courage expected of officers in uniform.
“This commendable act not only restores confidence in law enforcement but also sends a strong message: honesty is still alive, and character still matters.” He wrote.
The development had also attracted commendations from netizens.
