Catholic Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, has mourned the deceased victims of the brutal terrorists’ attacks on residents of Woro community in Kwara State.
The renowned clergyman, in a statement issued on his official X handle on Sunday, expressed his sadness over the tragic incident which claimed the lives of over 75 residents of the community located in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
NPO Reported that the suspected terrorists had last week Tuesday stormed the community unleashing mayhem which lasted hours with scores of people massacred.
The terrorists, identified as member of the Mahmuda sect, a splinter faction of the Boko Haram, were reporte to have attacked the village and killed the residents who are largely Muslims over their refusal to accept their extremist doctrines.
Reacting to the development in the statement, Pope Leo XIV prayed for the deceased and all victims of violence and terrorism.
He however urged the Nigerian authorities to ensure the protection of lives in the country.
“It is with sorrow and concern that I learned of the recent attacks against various communities in Nigeria leading to a heavy loss of life.
“I express my prayerful closeness to all the victims of violence and terrorism.
“I likewise hope that the competent Authorities will continue to work with determination to ensure the safety and protection of the life of every citizen.” The clergyman wrote.
