Popular Nigerian Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq-Onikijipa, has lashed out pilgrims creating social media contents during lesser hajj.
The cleric, in a recent sermon shared on Facebook on Wednesday, expressed his displeasure with the trend of creating content out of the holy pilgrimage.
He held that most pilgrims lacked understanding of the exercise.
Onikijipa questioned the genuineness of today’s hajj pilgrims which he claimed is in contrast with what was obtainable during the era of the prophets.
“Speaking of fasting, we just pray to God to accept it. The fasting you break immediately you leave your house. You will see everything thing hinder your fast the moment you step outside.
“You will see some creating social media content at lesser Hajj. Is it until when you that before we know you are praying to God? You are all sick.
“Before social media, people worship God and He accepts their worship. But you will them on phone claiming to be interceding on behalf of others. If you know the purpose of being there, you know that what you’re doing presently is not what is next for you.
“Some will go as far as taking selfie and you will claim you are serving God. Is this the hajj you want to take to Al-Qiyamah?
“Is that the type of Hajj Prophet Mohammed (SAW), Prophet Usman, and others did?” The cleric asked
