A renown human rights and pro-democracy activist in Nigeria, Abiodun Aremu has died.
Aremu died on Sunday in the Ota, Ogun state area after being hit by a vehicle who driver immediately fled the scene.
He was said to have been crossing the highway when the incident happened. He was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital where medics made efforts to revive him but failed.
The news of his death was made known by his long standing comrades who have expressed grief over his death.
As confirmed in a statement issued by Owei Lakemfa on behalf of the Nigerian labour movement, Aremu was said to have joined the pantheon of revolutionaries.
His burial ceremony is slated to hold today in Ogun State where he will be buried beside his mother at Number 30, Kabiru Fatoye Street, Opposite Alaka Field, Ijako Sugar Bus Stop, Ifo Road, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The late activist was described as an inimitable leader of the working class who developed structures for collaboration and development of the Labour Movement.

These, according to Lakemfa, include the Labour, Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) and the Kolagbodi Memorial Foundation.
Aremu also built a movement, the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School (ACIS-M) mainly to conscience the youths, provide them praxis and encourage their development into full revolutionaries that can change the world.
He was also the Secretary of the Nigeria Movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara and, the Nigerian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.
The activist also known as Aremsonwas a recipient of the Friendship Medal awarded by the Cuban Government to outstanding internationalists.
