A group of aggrieved protesters have on Tuesday stormed the premises of the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the hearing of the case of the notorious hoodlum and National Union of Road Transport Workers’ (NURTW) chieftain, Shamusideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon.
NPO earlier Reported the arraignment of the NURTW chieftain over alleged murder of a commercial tricycle passenger simply identified as Ramon as well as brutal assault on a dispatch rider at Lagos Island.
In a coincidental occurrence, Ramon who was assaulted by Shamelon in August passed away on the 17th of September, the same day the NURTW chieftain was captured in a video assaulting a dispatch rider.
The news of Ramon’s death coupled with the admission and placement of the dispatch rider on oxygen in a hospital in the same day had sparked public outrage as angry residents stormed his base on the Island and burrnt down two of his motorcycles.
This also led Shamelon’s arrest by the Police who after days of investigation eventually arraigned him today.
Ahead of the hearing, the protesters on Tuesday gathered at the court’s premises in demand for justice for Ramon.
Video shared on X by The Guardian showed the protesters chanting with “Justice for Rahman and others”.
The suspect, as captured in another video, arrived at the court’s premises in chains around 9:58am.
