A socio-political accountability group, Tracka, has called for accountability over the newly constructed Kugbo Bus Terminal which suffered devastating damage by rainstorm on Tuesday.
NPO Reported that the terminal built by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, was partly destroyed as the rainstorm detached the roof of the building with its debris littered across the highway, obstructing traffic flow.
This had sparked mixed reactions from members of the public with netizens raising speculations over the quality of materials used in building the multi-billion Naira infrastructure.
Also joining the dissenting voice in a statement issued on its official X handle on Wednesday, Tracka labelled the Kugbo Bus Terminal as another fraudulently delivered project.
The accountability group recalled that the terminal was officially commissioned in June 2025, amid promises that it would modernize transportation in Abuja, improve commuter safety, and help address the menace of ‘one-chance’ transport crimes.
It disclosed that the facility had been left unused since its commissioning which, according to the group, raised question about the project delivery and accountability.
“It was presented as a major step toward improving public transport infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory.
“However, despite the public fanfare that accompanied its commissioning, the facility remained unused and non operational for more than nine months after it was unveiled.
“A public project commissioned in June 2025 should have immediately begun serving the commuting public.
“Instead, the terminal sat idle for months without fulfilling the purpose for which it was built. This raises a fundamental question about project delivery and accountability.” Track wrote.
Coupled with its demand for reason behind the non-operational status of the project despite completion, the group also questioned the quality of the construction.
“Why commission a public facility that is not ready for use?
“Commissioning projects that are not operational misleads citizens and creates the false impression that infrastructure is being delivered when, in reality, the public cannot access or benefit from it.
“With parts of the terminal’s structure being damaged after a short rainfall yesterday further deepen concerns about the quality of construction and oversight.
“Public infrastructure funded with taxpayers’ money should be durable, functional, and able to withstand normal environmental conditions.” The statement read further.
Track maintained that the citizens demand answers over the non-functionality of the project as well as those involved in its construction.
“Citizens deserve clear answers. Who built the terminal? Who supervised the project? Who inspected and certified it before commissioning? Why was it commissioned before it was ready for public use?
“Public infrastructure must go beyond ribbon cutting ceremonies. Projects should only be commissioned when they are fully ready, functional, and able to serve citizens immediately.” Track added.
