Travellers for the Sallah celebration are in for a tough time as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is witnessing huge traffic snarl.
The snarl, which had commenced since the noon of Thursday was believed to have been more compounded by the activities of rams sellers and buyers at the ram market near the Berger area in the outskirts of Lagos.
Apart from those making last minutes purchases of rams, the diversion of the road which had led to some barricades had contributed to make the situation unbearable for thousands of holiday makers.
NPO Reports correspondent observed that from the Otedola Bridge area, most travellers experience the gridlock with some spending as long as two hours between Berger and Arepo area along the highway, a distance of just about 4 kilometres.
A traveller who spoke with the NPO Reports, Aleem Oladipo, said he spent three hours before getting out of the traffic.
“I arrived at Otedola Bridge area at about 6am today in the hope that leaving early would help me get to my destination which is Oyo. I got stuck for and came out just a few minutes ago,” he said
Another traveller, Mrs. Maimuna Jibril, who said she is on her to Iddah, Kogi State, said she has already missed the opportunity for early arrival in Kogi.
Ismaila Salami is a vulcanizer at Kara area. He said the traffic that has started since Thursday is not expected to abate before the Sallah day.
“I don’t see it ending that quickly until may be tomorrow when all those travelling for the sallah must have gone.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps were seen trying to ensure that motorists do not flout traffic regulations.
However, some of the commuters shunned the order of the FRSC men and drove against traffic.
