Former Nigerian military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), has come under public spotlight over video of him being used for advertisement by an Indian hospital after undergoing knee replacement surgery.
Abdulsalam was flown to Shalby Multi-Specialty Hospitals in India where he went under the knife.
The hospital had after the surgery made a video advertisement showing highlights of the ex-military leader’s surgery procedure at its International Patients Care facility.
Abdusalam could be seen in the clip shared on X on Tuesday evening by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, stretching his heavily bandaged left leg after the procedure before being assisted to take a walk.
Reaction in a caption attached to the video, Sowore slammed Abdulsalam, stressing that he had every opportunity while in power to build a first-class healthcare facilities in Nigeria.
‘This is former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, being used in a hospital advert after undergoing knee replacement surgery in India.
‘These so-called “experienced leaders” had every opportunity while in power to build first-class healthcare facilities in Nigeria.
‘Yet, in old age, they travel abroad for the very medical care they failed to make adequately available at home and can even end up as advertisements for foreign hospitals.’ He wrote.
The 2027 African Action Congress of Nigeria Presidential candidate also took a jab at incumbent President Bola Tinubu who he claimed may one day appear in a hospital advert in France as he decried the alleged neglect of Nigeria’s heathcare system.
‘At this rate, perhaps one day a hospital in France will be using a Nigerian president, Tinubu for its adverts.
‘What a tragic indictment of decades of failed leadership and neglect of Nigeria’s healthcare system.’ He wrote.
