A unidentified woman has raised concerns over the alleged sourcing of some human-hair products imported into Nigeria, claiming that hair obtained from deceased and mentally ill people is being processed and sold as wigs and hair extensions.
The woman made the allegation in a video circulating on social media, where she displayed bundles of raw human hair spread across a floor.
“These hairs are being shipped to Nigeria, not any other country but Nigeria,” she said while showing the hair.
She further claimed that some of the products were sold cheaply to Nigerian consumers who were looking for affordable human-hair extensions.
“People that are looking for cheap raining hairs, this is what you buy,” she said.
She alleged that some of the hairs were being collected from mad and dead people, sourced from India, where she claimed it was purchased cheaply.
She also alleged that the hairs the Indian factories were unable to sell locally was subsequently shipped to countries including Vietnam and China before eventually finding its way into the Nigerian market.
The claims have therefore generated mixed reactions on X, with some users expressing concern.

@2WayV_ said, “Some of you wonder why Nigerian women always act mad. Well now you know why”
@princeofenugu01 added, “Is that not shameful? Highest level of low self esteem imposed on our women, it’s already 21st century please, you guys should wake up and embrace self love, how many whites are buying your hair?”
@FolarinAdio stated, “No proof No concrete evidence just word of mouth. That’s how they start demarketing themselves till a lack of trust grows in the hair wig business till the original supplier steps in and wailing will start”
@TrueNaijaStoryy commented, “She’s just saying it so that people would buy hair from her at an expensive price. So who knows if after all the noise she still buy same hair to go sell to her customers? How does she also know the factory she buys from don’t get it from the same people she’s criticizing? Because she cannot claim every hair she sells she cut them directly from the owner lol”
@Naijadigitalnmd added, “How do you think they got the hair before? It’s obviously human hair and it has to come from somewhere. The better question is; why black people wear human hair and pretend it’s their hair? Our women should appreciate their natural hair and be more confident with it.”
