A Nigerian public commentator simply identified as Esen has faulted the emergency response given to renowned Nigerian-born boxer British boxer, Anthony Joshua, following his involvement in a fatal road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
NPO Reported that the former World Undisputed Heavyweight champion had on Monday escaped death by whisker after a Lexus jeep conveying him and four others rammed into a stationary truck parked before Danco Filling Station, near the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis., Ogun State.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of two occupants of the vehicle while Joshua was rescued with minor injuries.
Videos shared on X showed moment the boxer, who was writhing in pain, was evacuated from the crushed vehicle into a police van before being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Reacting to the video of the rescue, Esen, in a post on his X handle, faulted the manner at which the boxer was made to sit upright in the front of the van with no ambulance at sight for proper medical care.
This according to him contradicted the basic protocol of lying an accident victim flat and stabilised.
The incident, Esen maintained, highlighted how broken Nigeria’s emergency response and governance systems are.
“After a major accident reportedly involving Anthony Joshua, where two lives were lost, there was no visible emergency response; no ambulance, no proper medical care.
“Instead, he was made to sit upright in the front of a police van immediately after the crash, when basic safety protocol says an accident victim should be laid flat and stabilized.
“This is deeply troubling. It highlights how broken our emergency response and governance systems are. May Nigeria not happen to any of us.
“The country desperately needs help; especially in administration, structure, and good governance. This is too much.” The X user wrote.
This had attracted reactions from other netizens who largely expressed their displeasure over the development with some attributing the accident to bad road.
