An Oyo State House of Assembly lawmaker, Ibrahim Shittu, has come under heavy scrutiny follow of him urging Muslim voters in the state to reject parties parading a Christian candidate ahead of the governorship election in the state.
Shittu, in the viral video making rounds on X on Monday, charged the Islamic clerics to support only the All Progressives Congress Muslim candidates at all levels of the forthcoming 2027 Oyo Governorship Election as well as the general elections.
The lawmaker representing, Saki West constituency, warned that Islam will suffer if Christians emerge winner of the poll.
‘We need you our fathers to support all our candidates who are Muslims.
‘Any party that parades a Christian candidate as governor, let’s reject them. If we permit them, Islam will suffer.’ Shittu said.
The lawmaker’s statement had since sparked outrage as netizens condemned and accused him of inciting religious hatred.
