Two police officers have come under public spotlight after captured in a video physically assaulting a lady and her colleague at Ladipo Market in Lagos state.
The officers had reportedly pulled the duo over after overtaking their vehicle.
They ordered the driver out the car with a clip in the video capturing moment he was fiercely dragged by the police officers.
While this drew the attention of passersby and traders, the lady, whose name could not be confirmed, pulled out her phone to record the scene while demanding for her seized file.
Realising they were being recorded with more people gathering around, the officers released the driver and retreated to the unofficial operational vehicle they came with.
Another clip of the video showed moment one of the officers hit the lady, damaging her eyeglasses after approaching their vehicle in demand for her seized file.
While the cause of the police action is currently unknown, the incident has sparked mixed reactions from netizens who largely condemned that assault and demanded the prosecution of the officers.
Some however doubted if they are real police officers on account of their dressing as one of the officers could be seen with four rings on his fingers while putting on a cap that read “Polite” instead of “Police”.
“Police in Nigeria are acting like ice in the usa , the police reform as to start from the academy, the government need to increase the salary to allow more youth join the force , it’s getting worse”@pulsegist
“Let’s be honest that’s how those officers always do, most of them act the same way. But they are some of them that are very nice handle something nicely. There’s no one particular police that is different in any state they all assault people due to they know we have no power to asked them why they do this and that they will always come out clean even if they are the one wrong.”@Ademola615
“I believe the new Police leadership must adopt a firmer and more decisive approach to finally curb the excesses of officers under its command. Accountability and discipline within the force are long overdue.”@emekar
“There seriously needs to be a complete overhaul of the police system and at least try to employ and give g*ns to educated people When you see how police in developed countries behave, you sometimes think it’s heaven”@damola_mills
“This is outrageous. No one should face violence or harassment for simply driving a car, yet stories like this show how some Nigerian police officers abuse their power instead of protecting citizens. Accountability is long overdue. Nigeria institutions needs quick reform.”@LyfAcrosBorders
“He has a POLITE cap on, wears rings that look like they’re molded for sinister reasons, and looks every definition of evil. Unfortunately there are too many of his kind in the force. Shame!”@OlaBarnabas
“Lagos State is becoming something else, the frustration is becoming something else. This is unacceptable. It is time for the people to say enough about their frustration with these criminals hired by the government.”@AOchiawuto
