The Federal Government has on Monday made a controversial allocation of N10 billion Naira for the installation of a solar mini grid at the Presidential Villa.
This, according to report, is expected to reduce the State House dependency on the national grid.
It is also expected to reduce the electricity tariff hike on government finances, especially with the Aso Villa being placed on Band A.
However, with an initial increment from N47.11 billion to N57.11 billion in the 2025 budget, the addition of the N10 billion solar project to the State House’s allocation had sparked reactions from netizens who faulted the project, labelling it as exorbitant and over inflated.
“As an expert in this industry, I’m bemused at the amount for this contract. I can responsibly say that this contract can be achieved with under a quarter of that amount. There are too many leakages in the Nigerian system.” @RealOlaudah wrote.
“N10 BIllion for solar power??? If the villa has no guarantee for power from the national grid, then ” TO YOUR SOLAR. KERO & FIREWOOD” Oh, Nigerians”@shehu_mahdi
“10bn for just solar in the presidential villa? What country where there’re dumbs houses of representatives and senators. Why are they not saying NO to president, but YES all the time? May God be between us with them. It’s such a shame 🫠 😞”@TYMaiAtamfa
“It is clear that even the Presidential Villa cannot afford the electricity tariffs under Band A and the frequent grid collaspes coupled with the cost of diesel, hence the decision to go off grid. But where does this leave the average Nigerian? It is time to reduce tariffs.” @EricEsoimeme
“What will be the KVA output for such an amount? Will that replace all the generators and their annual fueling and maintenance costs? We need a breakdown of the cost savings analysis.”@OnunakuDr
“Lend me your 👂 ears. D epileptic power outage in Nigeria is beyond an individual solution. Think outside d box if U must enjoy affordable power. Aso Rock example is a step in d right direction.”@BolajiTund26601
“This 10billion is overinflated. This current Government doesn’t want to pity Nigerians . It’s all about execution of overinflated projects so they can have enough to loot. The same thing the FCT minister is doing. Who gave us this set of Leaders?”@SignorOnukwugh1
“The power generation matter has overwhelmed the presidency. When Tinubu was blaming Jonathan for low power generation they thought electric power is the same as political power 😂🤣. The difference is plenty.”@RalphNwabueze

“These Tinubu circles are a pack of criminals. 10 Billion for Solar grid installation. With that money, you can build a Solar power grid for 1,000 homes, assuming you spend 10 million per house. 2000 homes if you spend N5 million.”@Cincinnatus
