Popular Nigerian Fuji icon, Wasiu Ayinde, has come under fire as reactions trailed his refusal to apologize for allegedly insulting Muslim clerics.
Wasiu had in a viral video complained over the influx of Muslim Clerics to his house following his mother’s death.
Another video clip showed the singer stating that he had no cause to apologize.
Reacting in a post on his TikTok handle a clergyman identified as Alhaji Latmaq, slammed the clergymen who went for the burial of Wasiu’s mother for their promiscuity.
“Let’s be careful, especially the junior clerics. You better don’t allow promiscuity to implicate us. Just look at how you were embarrassed at someone’s burial. You only attend events you are invited to. What led you to an event you are uninvited? Wasiu Ayinde’s mother died and you all went there to be disgraced. Whereas you all know Wasiu Ayinde’s attitude.” The cleric said.
Also reacting was popular Ilorin-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Buhari Musa, who claimed he would have immediately left the burial ceremony following Wasiu Ayinde’s refusal to apologize over his remark.
The cleric, popularly known as Buhari Omo Musa, also charged other clerics to stop attending events they are uninvited.
“If I’m to be in such scenario, I would immediately drop the mic. I’m not condemning the cleric’s for staying. But it were to be me, I will drop the mic and leave.
“They told him what he said about the clerics is wrong but he claimed to have done no wrong. Yet you all stayed.
“I know you will also have your reasons for staying if asked, but I want urge us all clerics to stop attending events we are not invited to.
“Someone passed away and you all rushed there to bathe the deceased when there are other Alfas nearby to do that. Let’s all learn from this incident and respect ourselves.” Buhari Omo Musa said.
Another Islamic cleric, Alfa Aribidesi, faulted Ayinde’s refusal to tender an apology over his statement while preaching at a recent Islamic graduation ceremony.
He stressed that the Fuji icon embarrassed the Ilorin Mufti who advised him to apologize.
“A whole Mufti of Ilorin who you invited to the burial advised you to apologize, but you refused. You embarrassed him in public.
“Nobody can do such to Sheikh Adam. It showed you have no regard for the Mufti who is left out in your accusation on promiscuous clerics.” Aribidesi said.
He, however, urged the graduating students to borrow a leaf from the incident and avoid promiscuity.
Meanwhile, another cleric in a post on X defended the clerics who visited Wasiu Ayinde following his mother’s death.
Their visitation, according to the cleric, is in compliance with Prophet Mohammed’s (S.A.W) preaching on visiting those who grieve.
He expressed that whoever embarrasses a cleric is invoking the wrath of God.
“What’s the fault of the clerics who paid a visit to someone who loses his mother? Isn’t it part of the Prophet Mohammed’s (S.A.W) Sunnah? Do we need to be told or seek permission before we visit neighbours who lost their loved ones? They have only done their responsibility and you embarrassed them. Don’t you know you have invoked the wrath of God?” The cleric said.
