In celebration of his son’s 18th birthday, a Nigerian father, Sanya Onayoade, took to his Facebook page to give the young lad a piece of advice as he transitioned into adulthood.
Onayoade, in the post, recalled his son’s growth from birth to teenager which was backed up with pictures of his childhood memories.
While welcoming him to the new age where he ceased to be a minor, the father hinted his son on the expectations that come with his new age among which include taking full responsibility of his life and gradual decline in parental control which will now be more of remote guidance.
The post read; “Happy birthday son. It’s just like yesterday when you filled the maternal space of your mummy’s belly, and thereafter suckled the milk of life.
“Welcome to 18, the age you cease to be a minor; the age of global majority, the voting age, the onset of adulthood and the obfuscation of innocence. What other things do 18-year olds do? Don’t ask Google, because it would include smoking, drinking and marrying, and some loose inanities.
“Nonetheless, it’s the age you take full responsibility for your life, including decision to rent your own apartment and pay ALL your bills.
“You are in charge now, with a remote guidance from Mummy and Daddy; knowing fully well that heavens won’t fall if your perpetually inquisitive mummy stumbles on a used condom. We can only wish and pray against licentious temptations.
“As you turn 18, and see the world spread out in endless exploration, there is wisdom in moderated indulgence. The world before you is full of possibilities and exploits, triumphs and challenges.
“Mummy and Daddy have had their teen-time, and are living the consequences and joy of it. But we’ll be praying for you, so that you continue to profess your divine name, TaraTaralOluwaDami (#GodCreatedMeWithWonders).
